This meeting follows two very successful previous meetings held in Oxford (1997) and in Toronto (1999), both of which were characterised by very lively and thought-provoking papers presented in a spirit of considerable enthusiasm. As before, the contributions come from members of both societies and from many countries, making the meeting truly international. Papers cover a larger number of themes than is normally possible in one meeting.

Founded in 1326, Clare College is the second oldest of the Cambridge colleges. It is located just a short walk away from the centre of Cambridge, yet enjoys a peaceful location in beautiful riverside gardens. The conference starts after lunch (2 p.m.) on Friday 9 July 2004 and finishes with lunch on Sunday 11 July 2004. The programme will be circulated to those who have registered and a regularly updated version will also be available on the BSHM website www.dcs.warwick.ac.uk/bshm.

Cambridge is a very popular conference venue so variations of accommodation arrangements may be difficult to arrange. Any such requests must be made well in advance, preferably at the time of registering.
