Coursework Marking Criteria |
These criteria are intended as a guide both for students completing assessed work, and for staff who will mark it. 70+ Excellent work that is well argued, structured, intelligent and which shows evidence of thorough analysis, organisation and expression. Research is extensive and thorough. Often shows some originality or creativity of insight and approach, is well?articulated and demonstrates a good understanding of the subject matter. Discrimination will be shown regarding source material. Few, or no, errors in grammar, spelling, or punctuation. Accurate citation and use of references. Marks of 80+ should be considered where the work displays exceptional qualities in most of the above areas. 60-69 Very good work which is clearly written, well?argued, well-researched and covers the subject matter in a thorough, thoughtful and competent manner. Few errors or gaps in: content, structure, analysis, organization, grammar, 50-59 Solid work covering much of the subject matter but lacking in at least two or more aspects such as: content, expression, analysis, structure, argument, research. Discrimination may be lacking regarding source material. Referencing may be inadequate. 40-49 Adequate work, but which is unsatisfactory or barely satisfactory in most of the following: content, analysis, expression, structure. Work in this range tends to exhibit deficiencies in prose style, grammar and citation and use of references, but contains evidence of enough work, thought and understanding of the topic area to avoid failure. 30-39 FAIL Anything which is inadequate in most or all of the following: length, content, structure, analysis, expression, argument and relevance. Work in this range attempts to address the question/problem but is substantially 0-29 FAIL No serious attempt to address the question or problem, and/or manifests a serious misunderstanding of the requirements of the assignment. Acutely deficient in all aspects.
